Inspection and Testing
Electric powered equipment needs to be Inspected and tagged on a regular basis. Home inspections should be carried out by a person certified as competent to undertake remedy. Testing and tagging has to be in accordance with the performance specifications of:
Australian Standard 3760: the year 2003 In-service safety inspection and testing of electrical equipment.
Where appropriate, in-service testing and inspection shall include:
External inspection of the equipment and the connecting facilities (eg flexible supply cord)
Protecting earth continuity tests for Class 1 equipment, electricity boards and cord units
Insulation testing, which may be achieved by testing insulation resistance, or seapage current
Confirmation of the correct polarity of live connections in cord twos with re-wireable plugs and cord extension sockets.
Bank checks for injury to flexible source cords including:
The internal cores of flexible source cords are not uncovered or twisted
The exterior sheaths of flexible source cords are not slice, abraded, twisted, or broken to such an degree that the insulation of the inner cores is visible
Unprotected conductors or maybe the use of banding efficiency tape are not in evidence.
